Soccer - Football League Division One - Leeds United v Sunderland1957
Leeds United's John Charles (second r) hammers the ball past Sunderland goalkeeper Bill Fraser (l) to score one of his two goals in his final match for the club
I can't remember my first visit to Elland Road, but my Dad tells me about it. It was about the time of this photo. My Dad took me to a home game and on the way told me all about the great John Charles. We were late arriving. As we pushed our way into the crowd I asked which of the players was Charles. My Dad says that as I spoke Charles headed the ball from around our penalty spot and it landed in the opponent's half. An old, heavy ball, remember. He was that powerful and commanding.

Yes, me too - it was a friendly played under the newly installed floodlights. Leeds U 5 Banik Ostrava 2 - King John scored a hat-trick.
