Richard Todd 1954

Actor Richard Todd as Wing Commander Guy Gibson, VC, last war hero of Bomber Command, in the film version of Paul Brickhill's bestseller 'The Dam Busters', which tells the true story of the epic and vital raid that attacked the great dams of Germany, situated in the Ruhr industrial region. He served in various capacities throughout the Second World War, and was part of the D-Day landings, meeting up with Major John Howard on Pegasus Bridge and repelling several attacks. Bizarrely, he later starred in a film about the D-Day landings called The Longest Day – Todd played Major Howard while another actor played Todd. He was also involved in the Battle of the Bulge.
