DECEMBER 5TH: Opera star Jose Carreras singing for 15,000 people in the Crescent, Bath. *18/1/2000 - Jose Carreras is to perform in Edinburgh after a personal request from a widowed grandmother. Betsy Stirling, 57, came up with the idea to write to the Spanish singer on the night her husband Hamish died of leukaemia. Jose Carreras himself suffered from leukaemia ten years ago and he agreed to perform in the city, with the proceeds of his performance split between the Leukaemia Trust for Scotland and the Jose Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation.
